Request AppointmentWhat Is Dry Eye?
Dry Eye Disease occurs when your eyes lack the necessary moisture or lubrication to remain comfortable and perform at their best. Dry eye can range from mild to severe and often is unfortunately underdiagnosed or left untreated if discovered. Luckily large improvements in diagnostic equipment allow us to find the root cause and treat the disease much more directly, see below for the numerous treatment options that our office offers.
Dry Eye Treatments
Although dry eye disease, as it is a disease, can’t be cured completely your symptoms can be greatly mitigated. Our aim is to enhance your overall comfort and vision. Seeking professional help is crucial to managing dry eye and reducing its impact on your daily life.
IPL Therapy
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy uses gentle pulses of light to treat the skin around your eyes, helping reduce dry eye symptoms. This warm light therapy can reduce inflammation in your eye’s blood vessels and help clear any oil blockages in your meibomian glands, leading to longer-lasting tears.

LipiFlow
We first us LipiScan to capture images of the meibomian glands, allowing us to evaluate their structure and look for signs of meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
The LipiFlow Thermal Pulsation System is a noninvasive treatment that uses heat and a gentle massage on both upper and lower eyelids. This helps open up your glands, melt clogged oils, and improve the natural flow of your tear’s oily layer. The LipiFlow procedure typically takes around 12 minutes.
BlephEx
Your eyelids can accumulate debris, dead skin cells, oils, and bacteria. This buildup can disrupt the surface of your eye, leading to inflammation, dry eye symptoms, and contact lens intolerance.
BlephEx is an eyelid treatment that thoroughly cleans the lid margin to remove excess buildup. Keeping the lid margin clean allows the meibomian glands to function better, helping our tears evaporate less, and our eyes stay moist.
Punctal Plugs
Punctal plugs are small medical devices inserted into the tear duct to conserve your natural tears. By preventing tear drainage, they can help provide long-lasting relief from dry eye symptoms and improve overall eye comfort.
Prescription Eye Drops
Prescription eye drops can help replenish moisture, control inflammation, or stimulate natural tear production. The type of medicated eye drops or artificial tears we recommend depends on the type of dryness you’re experiencing. They can be used alongside other treatments if needed.
Eyelid & Lash Cleanser
We recommend Avenova Antimicrobial Eyelid and Lash Cleanser, a gentle eyelid spray containing hypochlorous acid. This all-natural disinfectant helps remove bacteria on eyelids and lashes without irritating sensitive skin. Regularly cleaning your eyelashes and eyelid margin can help soothe inflammation and improve oil flow through the meibomian glands, providing quicker relief from dry eye symptoms.
Omega-3 Supplements
Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial in preventing and relieving dry eye symptoms. They help control inflammation and improve the function of the meibomian glands (oil glands) in the eyelids. However, it can be challenging to ensure you’re getting enough from your diet or over-the-counter supplements. That’s why we recommend quality products like EyePromise supplements, which contain natural ingredients to deliver the nutrients you need.
